The National Disaster Management Network of Nepal (DiMaNN) has organized two days training cum workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management on 28th and 29th November, 2018 at Hotel Choice, Swayambunath, Kathmandu on the occasion of DiMaNN’s Third National Convention and 5th General Assembly.
The program was inaugurated by the chief guest, Former Education Minister and DRR Expert Dr. Ganga Lal Tuladhar and was chaired by Mr. Surya Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson of DiMaNN. The main objective of the program is to create awareness and sensitize main features of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Act, 2074, policy and strategic action plan for 2018-2030, and the role of network members for the effective implementation of the above DRRM act, policy and strategic action plan to all network members. The inauguration ceremony was attended by chief guest Dr. Ganga Lal Tuladhar; special guest Mr. Banshi Acharya – Under Secretary of MoHA; Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha – Executive Director of NSET; Dr. Uma Koirala – Chairperson of Friends Service Council Nepal (FSCN).
During the training cum workshop, Mr. Banshi Acharya, under Secretary of MoHA presented the paper on DRRM Act 2074, policy and strategic plan. Aditi Dhakal and Anup Poudel from NSET Baliyo Ghar team presented paper on Disaster Basics and Concept of Earthquake Safety, and on Earthquake Resistant Technology and Building Code. Similarly, Rohit Yadav and Shikha Shrestha from VSO Nepal presented on VSO core approaches in the work of DRR and development. They also focused on bringing systemic changes to reduce discrimination, social exclusion, and poverty to support for the excluded and disadvantaged community. After the training program, seven groups were divided on the basis of provincial states and they were made to develop an action plan for six months.
81 persons participated the programs, out of which 54 were male and 27 were female from the seven provincial states. Financial and technical support for the program was provided by VSO Nepal, NSET and FSC Nepal.
